An Anger Management Skill Worth Learning

There are many anger management skill s worth learning, but one stands out as the most important for many. This anger management skill is a seemingly simple one, but it is not always

easy to master. The skill is nothing more than learning to walk away when a situation gets too out of hand.

Most people have heard the old mantra, "Pick your battles," but actually learning to do this is not something all of us put into play. Developing the anger management skill of walking away
makes this actually happen. The benefits of this particular anger management skill are many. They include such things as:

Avoiding hoof in mouth disease. It is very easy to say things in anger; it is incredibly hard to take them back. Learning the anger management skill of walking away can help a person avoid
saying things they do not really mean. This makes this anger management skill valuable in all aspects of life, from personal relationships to workplace confrontations.

Developing the tools to really solve problems. When this anger management skill is learned and put into practice, the person who uses it can give themselves time and space to come up with

viable solutions to real problems. Rather than losing temper, acting out or saying things that are not meant, this anger management skill helps a person learn how to act like an "adult."

Avoiding serious consequences. When a person stays in an anger inducing situation too long, it is possible temper will go out of control so far that actions will take place. Those who learn this
anger management skill help themselves avoid situations that can lead to violent outbursts and other serious actions that can have grave consequences.

The benefits of this anger management skill are quite far-reaching. Learning to put it into play, however, is not always easy. There are some ways to recognize the need to politely end a
conversation and give oneself time to reflect and respond. They include:

Recognizing a loss of control happening. It is time to put this anger management skill to work when the only responses or actions that come to mind are those that will have negative effects
    on the situation.

When blood pressure starts to rise. If a person starts "seeing red," it is time to put thisanger management skill to work. If possible, learn to gauge when this is happening so walking away
before the "rage" point has been reached.

When the urge to "fight dirty" arises. This is a very good time to put the anger management skill of walking away into action.

While it is not always easy to walk away, most of the time it results in a much better outcome over the long run. Learning to master this anger management skill can be one of the most

valuable things a person can do for themselves and their personal and professional lives.
