There are a variety of ways to learn how to control emotion when the emotion in question is anger. Mastering how to calm down, when to walk away and even how to express oneself better in communication can all help greatly. The benefits of learning how to control emotion when anger is the issue are immense, as well. Those who learn how to handle this emotion are less likely to lash out, say things they do not mean or even take actions that can be dangerous. Sadness. Learning how to control emotion when that emotion is sadness can be a bit trickier. Sadness often needs to come out, but sometimes the situation is not appropriate. If this is the case, learning how to reframe thoughts, think of other things and even take a little time out to regain composure can all be important. Learning how to control emotion in the case of sadness is almost never easy. Sometimes, however, it is important. Fear. Learning how to control emotion in the case of fear can be a very valuable tool to have at one's disposal. Overcoming personal fears can often unlock doors to experiences and even positive risk-taking. Learning how to control emotion when fear is the issue often involves facing the fear head-on. When a person sees they can climb a ladder and survive, the fear tends to dissipate completely. Remember though, that some level of fear can be healthy in certain cases. Happiness. Learning how to control emotion in the case of happiness might seem like a strange skill to need to develop, but it can be useful in life. If, for example, one person gets a promotion and another doesn't, controlling personal happiness at least temporarily can be the right thing to do. Often the best way to do this is to think about the other person's pain. This won't make happiness go away, but it can mute it sufficiently. Learning how to control emotion can be a very useful and smart tool to have at one's disposal. While it is always a good idea to express deep emotions, sometimes the situation is just not right for doing so. |
