Fear Of Failure: The Leading Cause Of Procrastination

If you have ever had problems with ignoring important tasks and waiting until the last minute to take care of your responsibilities, then this article will open your eyes to a psychological truth that is considered to be the leading cause of procrastination.

First, let us be clear to the fact that not everybody's problems can be solved in one day or by just one technique alone. We all have different reasons why we continue self-defeating behaviors such as procrastination and we all have different histories that has led up to our current state of habit patterns. However, there is one common variable that seems to connect all people who procrastinate.

That variable is called the "fear of failure"

Worrying that the outcome of a specific task will not be good enough, or assuming that what you do will not have any impact, are behaviors that are associated with the psychological habit of procrastination. This habit is directly linked to the fear of failure. In other words, if you look within yourself and are willing to face the truth, you will more than likely see that the reason for your procrastination problem stems from anxiety and stress over whether or not the outcome of your tasks will match the goals you had for doing them in the first place. I should know because fear of failure kept me in poverty for almost 10 years.

Don't let procrastination keep you down like it did to me for over 5 years

Whether or not you have a problem with procrastinating on taking action that towards finances, anyone can relate to my personal story. For five years I had dreamed of becoming my own boss and starting a business. With a wife and three children, I always felt that it was important to give my family everything they deserved in terms of financial dependence, as well as freedom.

Having worked at the same boring low-paying job since high school, I was in a position where I would never make more than $10-$12 an hour. So one day I decided I was going to start my own business and start making the money that I wanted.

Every day for five years I worked at my regular job then came home at night full of plans, goals, and all kinds of blueprints for success that I found through research. I must've had two or three dozen ideas that I could start immediately for a personal business. But I never did anything with it. Day after day, week after week, month after month, I would get home at night and stare down at my notes and say to myself "I'll start tomorrow".

    Tomorrow never came

Although I talked a big game about being a success, taking action on them was a different story. I procrastinated on doing anything out of fear of failure. I was afraid to waste time on a project in case it failed. I was afraid to spend money on business resources in case the business didn't work out. I was scared that I would let my family down if my business did not succeed.

The fear of failure kept me procrastinating which prevented me from accomplishing my dream

Finally, I realized one day after looking back, that had I just took a small step each day and each week towards my goal of owning and operating my own personal business, I would have built an incredible set of income streams that would have allowed me to reach my goals years earlier. It was at this point that I had my breakthrough and realized that my enemy was procrastination. As soon as I followed a few simple techniques and started to take action, everything changed and I am now running in owning my own home-based business.

Has fear of failure keeping you from taking action?

You may or may not relate to my story. However, as stated previously, I can bet that some form of procrastination is keeping you from achieving a goal in life. Whether it's similar to mine in terms of financial abundance, health-related, or has to do with relationships, whatever it is - it can all change if you allow yourself to understand just how much of an impact the fear of failure has on influencing procrastination.
